Mary Mother of Jesus
and the Woman clothed with sun

Chapter 12 of Revelation shows us a great wonder. A woman waits to deliver a Savior. Mary mother of Jesus fulfilled the mission of the OT Church. Mary mother of Jesus Christ holds a special place in the Christian Church today.

1And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: 2And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered (Rev. 12:1, 2, KJV).

Mary Mother of Jesus or the OT Church?

John looks into Heaven and sees a woman … clothed with the sun. She radiates the Light of the World. The Sun of Righteousness rises from her presence (Mal. 4:2). This woman contains the Living Word of God.

The … moon stays under her feet, which indicates her dominion over the light of darkness. The woman wears … twelve stars on her head placed in a wreath of victory. The twelve stars in the crown indicate God’s people. The woman represents the people of God on earth.

The woman symbolized Israel before the birth of Christ. The woman also symbolized the Christian Church after the birth of Christ. The description of the woman identified her as the people of God from Adam to the Second Coming of Christ.

God called his people a woman in several passages of the OT (Isa. 54:1–6). The prophet Micah described a woman waiting to deliver a King.

9Why do you now cry aloud—have you no king? Has your counselor perished, that pain seizes you like that of a woman in labor? 10Writhe in agony, O Daughter of Zion, like a woman in labor, for now you must leave the city to camp in the open field. You will go to Babylon; there you will be rescued. There the LORD will redeem you out of the hand of your enemies (Micah 4:9, 10, NIV).

Mary Mother of Jesus our Savior

Out of love, the Almighty used the woman Israel to bring forth his King, Christ Jesus our Lord. Some Christians believe that the woman represents Mary,  mother of Jesus. Although Mary is a special saint of God, the description of the woman does not indicate that it’s her.

God required the Christ child to be true man and True God to complete his role as Savior of the World, (Heb. 2:14–18). Mary as the mother of Jesus gave him all the traits of man, and his Father gave Jesus all the traits of God. The Savior of the World needed all the traits of man, and yet live a life without sin. If Jesus was only True God and not also true man, then Satan could not have tempted him, because no one can tempt God with evil (James 1:13).

Mary mother of Jesus brought us God called Emmanuel

Mary Mother of Jesus brought us Emmanuel

Mary conceived her son, baby Jesus, in the flesh of man as true man (Heb. 2:11–18). The Holy Spirit conceived his Son, baby Jesus, as True God (Heb. 1:1–5). Our Creator used the combination man-God for the perfect sacrifice. Christ was sacrificed once to take away all the sins of mankind (Heb. 10–10).

Mary in the Church Today

God chose Mary in the beginning to bring forth our Redeemer (Gen. 3:15). Mary mother of Jesus gave us a picture of holiness in her obedience to the Lord. Mary was the first Christian to say yes to Jesus, and he loved Mary as his mother and as one of his special children.

Mary, a beautiful humble child of God, bore the perfect gift to mankind. She was Mary the mother of Jesus our Lord. She was a humble servant whom God gave a special task. Our Father, Jehovah, trusted Mary enough to bring his only Son into the world and to raise him. Mary nurtured our Lord from birth and had a worthy influence on him.

Mary held a unique place in the Christian Church. God came into Mary not once, but twice. God came into Mary the first time when the Holy Spirit created Jesus Christ in her (Luke 1:35). God came into Mary the second time at Pentecost. The Holy Spirit filled her with the Spirit along with her Christian brothers and sisters (Acts 2:1–4).

Jesus loves his mother, Mary, with a special love, and she’s our sister in Christ. The Scriptures say that she’s blessed. I am sure that she holds a high place in the Kingdom of Heaven, because she is the King’s mother. Moses and the prophets gave us the Word in the OT. The disciples wrote the Word in the NT. Mary gave us Jesus, the True Word of God.
