Living Water from our Lord
Means no more Curse for you and I

Living water flows from the Throne of God to each of us who seek him. This picture of the City of God reveals the working of our Creator in spiritual form here on earth. From the Cross, our Lord takes away the curse of the law. He offers each of us his river of living water that brings us to a type of mystical heaven here on earth.

1Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. 3No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him (Rev. 22:1–3, NIV).

Living Water of Life

Our Lord resumes his description of his Holy City, the New Jerusalem. The angel shows John … the river of the water of life. The river flows … from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the streets of the city. The trees of life stand on both sides of the living water. The many trees of life in the forest bear a crop of … fruit every month.

Jesus describes a place with abundant food and  living water, which gives physical life and spiritual life. The natural food and water supports our life on earth. The spiritual food and living water from Jesus helps us complete our spiritual destiny on earth. These verses give us a picture of God’s provision and care for his children of faith. Our Father provides for us today, and he will provide for us in our future home (Matt. 6:25–33).

The Garden in Eden

This scene in the last chapter of the Bible takes us back to the beginning at the Garden of Eden. What the Creator gave mankind in the Garden of Eden helps describe another special place that our Father prepares for his chosen children.

When Adam disobeyed God, he lost intimate fellowship with his Creator because of the curse of sin. Man lost the hope of eternal life and having a union with his Creator. The Almighty drove Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden and separated them from the tree of life (Gen. 3:22–24).

The curse of the lost relationship affected people on earth until Jesus restored it by the cross. God began a new covenant with man, which gave us new life in Christ. Therefore, … No longer will there be any curse (Gal. 3:10–14). The shed blood from the Crucifixion restored man’s intimate union with his Creator.

Living Water points to Holy Spirit

Our Savior offers us living water as a gift. He promises us that if we drink from the river we will never thirst. The water will spring up into everlasting life for each of us (John 4:10–13). Our Lord says that if we thirst, we should come and drink from him.

Rivers of living water flow to us when we believe in Jesus Christ. Jesus calls his living water the Holy Spirit, which he gives to us (John 7:38, 39). The living water points to the fruit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit along with all the blessings that the Lamb of God gives us.

A river flows out of the Garden of Eden and separates into the headwaters of four different rivers. This seems backward from the way rivers flow on the earth, where small streams flow into larger streams and rivers until the river enters a sea. But then, Eden’s a special place God created for Adam and Eve. The river from Eden gives us a picture of the living water from Jesus. The river coming from Eden splits into four large streams, which describes living water that flows in four directions over all parts of the earth.

Living Water flowing from our Creator

The Bible showed us a similar picture of the living water that flows … from the throne of God and of the Lamb (Ezek. 47:1–12). A spiritual being led the prophet Ezekiel to the OT Temple. Ezekiel saw water flowing from under the Temple of God. The water started as a small stream that increased in size the farther it traveled. The stream began ankle-deep, then knee-deep, then waist-deep, and then he couldn’t cross the river.

The river from Ezekiel, representing the Holy Spirit, flowed to the dry and barren places of the world. When the living waters flowed into the sea, the sea became fresh, and swarms of living creatures lived every where the water went. A large number of fruit trees grew on both banks of the river; they bore fruit every month. People used the leaves for healing.

Text of, Living Water, from pages 312-313 of "Walking Through Revelation"

The river of living water brings a taste of heaven from our Creator to each of us here on earth. God offers many promises in his Bible. All we need to do is reach out to to Jesus and ask for more living water of the Holy Spirit.
