Book of Revelation from John
as he sees God on his Throne

This web page previews the Book of Revelation. We see John at the Throne of God, as he receives the Book of Revelation from Jesus Christ. John introduces us to the seals and trumpets in the Book of Revelation.

The Colors of Almighty God

Many people see the Lord like a window of stained glass against the night sky. They can’t see the beautiful image of God without the Light of Revelation. The bright colors and likeness of God remain trapped in the glass. When morning comes, children of Light look at the stained glass against the risen Son. The beautiful colors and images explode from the glass. In this vision, we see wonderful pictures of our Father and our risen Savior.

John Sees the Throne

John’s in a cave on the island of Patmos worshiping the Lord. As he prays and gives glory to his God, something begins to happen. John watches a door swing open that leads to the Throne of God and he hears a voice vibrating like a trumpet. The voice says, “Come up to my place.”

The Almighty God picks John up and puts him right in front of his Throne of Authority. John looks around and sees an intimate view of Wisdom, Revelation, and Power. He beholds the Everlasting God. Do you suppose that John was excited?

John observes twenty-four elders encircling the Throne. John sees four strange creatures that surround the Throne. Finally, he notices a Lamb that appears slain. This is the Lamb who won victory over death. This is Jesus Christ: crucified to death, buried in a tomb, risen to life, and ascended to the Father in heaven. Only Jesus Christ is worthy to take the scroll and open the seven seals.

Book of Revelation Visions

Jesus Christ begins a new vision in chapter 4 of the Book of Revelation. The first vision introduces us to Jesus and the seven churches. The second vision reveals God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit as different members of the Godhead. Each person of the Trinity plays a different role in the creation of the earth and the redemption of man.

The seven seals show us the past and future history of world events. Each seal pictures a different view of the Gospel Age. The first six seals illustrate Jesus Christ proclaiming the Gospel and Satan’s attack on the Christian Church. God then seals his people against the spiritual ravages of Satan’s kingdom. The Christian saints have a difficult and bitter struggle; but in the end, our merciful Father assures them victory.

The seventh seal unfolds into the seven trumpets. At the seventh trumpet, the Temple of God opens and we see the ark of his covenant. Later we see the seven bowls of wrath. On our walk through the Book of Revelation, we see three more woes added to the trumpets.

Book of Revelation Reflects image of God

God does not give us all the keys to understand the Book of Revelation. Mystery still surrounds many of the symbols and the pictures. The Lord leads people in different directions when they study the book. I may understand the Book of Revelation one way, while other people may interpret it in a different way.

Jesus gives the second vision to John in chapters 4, 5, 6, and 7. We will treat the four chapters as one continuous vision. This vision sets the stage for the last five visions in the Book of Revelation.

1After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this” (Rev. 4:1, NIV).

Book of Revelation is a Gift to Us

John is in the Spirit when he looks at … a door standing open in heaven. Look (eido) means “to perceive with the eyes or any of the senses.”[i] John saw these visions with his eyes; John also perceived and understood them with all of his other senses. In order for John to see these visions with such clarity, God must have fine-tuned each of his senses.

Book of Revelation gift to us from Jesus Christ

Book of Revelation gives insight to God

Our Lord gave John a special gift and told him to share the gift. The gift that Christ gave the Christian Church offers a different spiritual viewpoint of the Gospel Age than we find in the other NT books.

The Prince of Peace told John to … Come up here. John entered the inner sanctum of our God of Peace. The Lord removed John from the earth and placed him next to the center of compassion, love, and mercy. A tremendous peace must have flooded John’s mind and spirit as he received the Book of Revelation.

[i] Look, eido, G1492. To know or to perceive with senses.
